Meet Winchell the Wonderdog! How did he get that name?  Well, our greyhound is just plain 'ole      wonderful... most of the time. Oh, he has his moments, like the time he ran away. Gee, he can run fast! This is one retired greyhound's story with a  very happy ending.

Winchell was adopted from an agency that rescues racing dogs and places them in loving, safe homes. One time, Winchell was able to escape our yard and we found him two miles away! A fenced yard is a necessity!

Now, Winchell can run to his heart's content on a large treed lot in the state of Maryland..far from the Florida race track he knew in his earlier years. The toy rabbit has been replaced with teasing squirrels, long legged deer, and an occasional chipmunk!

And this is the lovely Coco, a female companion that makes Winchell bat those puppy eyes. Coco was recently adopted by another family with children. Did you know greyhounds make especially nice pets for kids?

 Coco won many races, too!

WINCHELL'S CONFESSIONS:

  • ate a casserole off the kitchen counter (Hey, I was hungry!)

  • chewed up a paper coaster (Woof...I can't chew gum)

  • barked and woke neighbor (It was time to get up!)

  • rearranged the room (Yowsers! It was a bear and a pillow.)

"Dogs have given us their absolute all. We are the center of their universe. We are the focus of their love and faith and trust. They serve us in return for scraps. It is without any doubt the best deal man has ever made."    --Roger Caras

Things We Can Learn From Dogs

  1. Eat with gusto and enthusiasm.

  2. Allow the experience of fresh air and wind in your face to be pure ecstasy.

  3. When loved ones come home, always run to greet them.

  4. Run, romp, and play daily.

"No matter how little money and how few possessions you own, having a dog makes you rich."

                          --Louis Sabin

WOW! Would you look below at the prestigious most-sought after award I won for typing my own dog site! The hardest part was the chair....have you ever noticed how greyhounds have a way of sitting differently from other dogs? That's because our hind legs are so long that we prefer to squat than sit like some fru-fru poodle.

I love winning awards that you don't have to run circles for. This one's to show how smart I am ... I skipped all those obedience classes and just hung out at the student union and I still graduated with honors (But, kids, I wouldn't recommend that for you!)

Hey, pals, if you deserve an award for being a great pooch, then go check out canines.com/dogs/topdogwinners/
